It can seem impossible to achieve long-term recovery when you’ve been struggling with addiction for years, and in and out of several different rehabs without much success. Tyler was very familiar with this struggle. He entered his first rehab when he was just 21 years old and was addicted to heroin, painkillers, and alcohol for about six years. For half of that time, he tried different detox programs and rehabs to get clean, but nothing worked… until he discovered Archstone Recovery. Fast forward a year and a half later to the present, and Tyler has been sober and is now a part of our alumni team. But how did he get here? How was his experience at Archstone different compared to other rehabs? What worked for Tyler was how much smaller Archstone is than other rehabs he went to. Our staff was able to focus on his recovery, along with about 30 other patients we have at our facility. But what was probably even more helpful was how compassionate our staff is. In Tyler’s words, he said, “I felt like I was being seen for the first time.” He felt like he was treated like family here, not just another patient who comes and goes. Like many others who struggle with addiction, Tyler relapsed a few times after his time at Archstone ended. What helped him recover long-term was that our staff was always checking up on him, and we invited him to come back when he was in danger of relapse. Although our facility has changed ownership over the years, Tyler still felt like he was a part of a family, and the staff was “a part of my life all the time and always in my heart.”
A Connected Community You Can Look Up To
One factor that hindered Tyler’s recovery journey before he went to Archstone was not being around a supportive community of alumni members that he could look up to. Once Tyler came to Archstone, he met so many people who went through struggles similar to his. For Tyler, meeting these alumni members who were in their late 20’s and early 30’s, which was the next stage of life he was entering, and seeing how happy and sober they were, inspired him during his journey towards recovery. Currently, Tyler is the Alumni Relations Coordinator for Archstone. He hopes to bring together other alumni members in the Lantana area to continue to encourage their recovery and to help others currently struggling with addiction.
